Our Year 3 and 4 classes work very closely together. Children will be registered and taught many lessons with their own class but we also mix the classes to teach Spelling and Maths and some English in year groups. We are finding our children are thriving with this approach. Children in Year 3 and 4 may be taught and supported by all all of our Year 3/4 staff at some point during the school year. Staff work closely together to ensure that the same curriculum coverage and learning opportunities are given to all Year 3/4 classes.

Please note: Curriculum coverage maps are live documents which teachers use to inform their planning. The teaching order or content may change according to each class needs. The most accurate way of seeing what is being taught is through the curriculum newsletters.
Each pupil in Year 4 will receive one term of swimming lessons. These are 1 hour swimming lessons every Wednesday morning at Stowmarket Leisure Centre. Swimming instruction is carried out by qualified staff. Class teachers will inform parents when it is their child’s term for swimming in good time. Children will need the following equipment, preferably in a plastic bag. Please label all items. Children are expected to take responsibility for their own belongings:
One-piece swimming costume or pair of trunks (not swimming shorts/bermudas)
Swimming hat
Goggles (optional)
Towel
Brush or comb
NO aerosols, sprays, hair gel or talcum powder please and NO JEWELLERY
Below are a selection of our ‘Must Read’ books for children in Year 3 and 4. These are high quality texts that we feel will enrich our children’s reading experiences as well as help to take them on a varied reading journey. We recommend these as reading choices at home but we will also use some of these books as part of our learning in school and some we will simply enjoy together as a class story. Re-reading and discussing favourite books is such a valuable part of the reading experience and something that can also be enjoyed as a family. Happy reading!
