Due to the Pandemic, the 2021 Phonics Screening Test was taken in October by Year 2 pupils. We are pleased to report that 89% of the pupils achieved the expected standard. Our Year 1 Pupils took the Phonics Screening Test in June 2022 and 74% of the pupils achieved the expected standard. For more information about the Phonics Screening Test please use the link below.

Swimming Achievements

The DfE now requires schools to publish outcomes for pupils’ swimming achievements by the end of Year 6.

National Curriculum requirements for swimming and water safety:

  • swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • use a range of strokes effectively
  • perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.

Last academic year the pupils at Thurston CE Primary Academy were taught to swim in Years 5 and 6 at Stowmarket Pool using Suffolk Norse Swimming as, due to the pandemic, they missed out on the swimming tuition in Year 4. Currently Year 4 and 5 are attending an hours swimming lesson each week.
