Swimming Achievements

The DfE now requires schools to publish outcomes for pupils’ swimming achievements by the end of Year 6.

National Curriculum requirements for swimming and water safety:

  • swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • use a range of strokes effectively
  • perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.

In previous years, the pupils at Thurston CE Primary Academy were taught to swim in Years 5 and 6 at Stowmarket Pool using Suffolk Norse Swimming as, due to the pandemic, they missed out on the swimming tuition in Year 4. This academic year 22.23, Year 4 pupils are attending an hours swimming lesson each week for a term.
