National Poetry Day 2022

On 6th October we celebrated National Poetry Day. Both on the day and in the week leading up to it classes shared different styles of poetry and also wrote some poems of their own. In Collective Worship every class shared a poem with the whole school.

We loved Tiger Class performing a poem from the book ‘A Kid in My Class’, they told us how is was a Haiku poem written by someone who likes to talk about themselves a lot. A haiku is a Japanese poetic form that consists of three lines, with five syllables in the first line, seven in the second, and five in the third. You can read a copy of it below! Rhino and Elephant class both wrote poems based on their science work and performed those to the school. Even our Early Years class had their first go at performing to the whole school. It was a wonderful celebration.

Seth from Leopard Class reads his poem ‘Leopard’ which was inspired by the poem ‘This Bear’ by Joseph Coelho
